Thunderbird 2 was produced in one version only – friction
motor – but there are 2 distinctly different castings/ mouldings of the toy.
Registered design number 918622.
Original price 14/11.
Both featured:
FOLDING LANDING GEAR – the legs can be manually put
in to the up or down position
DETACHABLE POD CONTAINING VEHICLE

EMPIRE MADE Version.
These were manufactured in Hong Kong & came in a box with
“Empire Made” text on the side panels.
This version had WHITE plastic mouldings to the legs and
feet, red burners with foil in, the yellow band around TB2 was painted.
The pod contained a
plastic model of a jeep (Red or green) as it’s vehicle.

MADE IN
ENGLAND Version.
These were manufactured in England & came in a box with
“Made In England” text on the side panels.
This version had RED plastic mouldings to the legs and
feet, red burners with grey lattice ends, the yellow band around TB2 was a
transfer.
The wing housings are thinner than the Empire version.
The pod contained a model of the MOLE as it’s vehicle.

The boxes - for both versions - originally contained 2 pieces of cardboard
packing, one at each end, to hold the toy in place.
The wings & vehicle were wrapped in tissue paper &
contained within the pod.
